Livestock Minister Inaugurates Climate Technical Group On Climate Change, Harps On Efficiency

The Minister of Livestock Development  Idi Mukhtar  Maiha has called on the newly  inaugurated   Technical Working Group (TWG) on climate change to be more  proactive in the discharge of their duties,  towards ensuring an effective service delivery in the sector.

The Minister stated this while giving an opening remarks  during the inauguration of about 15 -man Technical Working Group on climate change in Abuja.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ijeoma Chinyere Akujobi, the Minister restated the need for the climate change sector to have a sectoral plan, being one of the pillars in the Nigeria  Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS 2025 -2035), a guiding document for the Ministry's operations.

A statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong on Thursday, said the minister stated that the Livestock Ministry should be a front burner with regard to all programmes and activities associated with climate change globally. 

The Minister also stressed the need to establish resource mobilization,action plan, and communication strategy in order to drive the goals.

The move, among other things, aimed at ensuring that the Livestock sector is being protected in terms of climate  conditions  in the country. 

" We need to promote collaborations and partnership,ensure you have Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework, set target for your self,, he added.

Responding, the Director, Sanitary Management and Climate Change Dr. Ishaku Mohammed  noted that the climate change eco- system is very broad, saying Nigeria suffer the effect most.

Mohammed then assured the Minister that the TWG based on the level of their competency will deliver on their mandates.

He hinted that some international organisations like German International Cooperation (GIZ)  and some others have declared willingness towards providing capacity building for the Technical group.

He also emphasized that Livestock Ministry is the first to inaugurate a technical working group in the country.
