The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad has said that the newly launched EDU REVAMP” Communities of Practice (CoPs) is a collective journey towards transforming education delivery and professional collaboration in schools across the country.
The Minister spoke at the launch of the initiative and the commencement of a focused capacity-building workshop for 80 carefully selected teachers and Federal Ministry of Education staff on Monday in Abuja.
She explained that the initiative under the larger umbrella of Quality Education and Learning Outcomes Initiative, with the the theme of this workshop, ‘’Revamping Education through Collaboration, Innovation, and Practice’’ is at the heart of what these Communities of Practice represent.
"Today’s event is more than just a ceremony. It is a milestone in our collective journey to transform education delivery and professional collaboration in our schools.
"These CoPs are not just groups; they are learning communities, hubs of shared knowledge, and platforms for sustainable teacher professional development.
"Having spent many years both in the classroom and in the field as a Professor of Science Education, I have firsthand understanding of the challenges our teachers face. I deeply value the transformative power of strong professional communities and how Communities Practice like this enable us to maximize limited resources, especially the invaluable expertise and knowledge of our colleagues, unlocking the full potential of both educators and learners," she said.
According to the minister, the launch of the Communities of Practice is a deliberate and strategic step in preparing for the rollout of the EDU REVAMP digital platform.
"This platform will not only boost your teaching skills with 21st-century tools, but it will incentivize and reward your progress. So, I urge our teachers to get prepared, because very soon, learning online will come with both knowledge and benefits. That means every completed module isn’t just a win for your classroom, it could be a win for you personally.
"The synergy between CoPs and EDU REVAMP is intentional. CoP administrators being trained here will serve as anchors and coordinators, supporting teachers as they navigate the digital training modules and nurturing strong, collaborative professional communities across our schools."
She commended invited guests particularly the team from Connected Learning for STEM (CL4STEM), who are bringing their global expertise and practical insights to this platform.
"I would also like to commend the CoP Committee, which was officially inaugurated on 7th March, 2025. You laid the groundwork and now you must ensure this initiative it's effectively domesticated, operationalized, and sustained across our education system.
To our participants—congratulations! You are the pioneers of this bold new approach. And with that comes both privilege and responsibility. You’ve been chosen because of your passion, openness to collaboration, and your readiness to lead change.
"Remember, you’re not here just to learn, but to lead. We’re counting on you to take this energy back to your schools and networks. Let your leadership echo across classrooms nationwide. Let’s show that when teachers come together, great things happen.
As we unveil this initiative, we do so with hope, with resolve, and with a clear understanding that education reform begins with teachers working as an entity not in isolation, but in communities of practice sharing, reflecting, improving, and innovating," Prof Ahmad stated.
"On behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education and the entire leadership of the Federal Ministry of Education, I hereby declare the “EDU REVAMP” Communities of Practice (CoPs) officially launched.
We look forward to your full participation and to seeing the ripple effects of your efforts across the country."
Earlier, CL4STEM Project Leader, Prof mustapha Tajordeen, a professor of Science Education, IBB University, Lapar, said that the project is centred on building the capacity of teachers.
"To promote high quality among our learners and boost their access to technology and to serve as the platform to promote social interaction amongst the teachers we are going to train."
