ECOWAS Mediation, Security Council 42nd Ordinary Session Commences In Abuja

The 42nd Ordinary session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council (MSC) at Ambassadorial level has commenced at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters, Abuja, Nigeria. 

The meeting brings together Ambassadors and security experts from Member States to deliberate on the evolving peace and security developments and challenges facing the region with a view to providing pertinent recommendations to promote good governance, peace and security of the Community citizens. 

In his opening remarks on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, on Wednesday, the Commissioner in charge of Political Affairs, Peace and Security at the ECOWAS Commission, Amb. Abdel-Fatau MUSAH, expressed his appreciation to Member States for their commitment and contributions towards the realization of the ECOWAS vision of a unified, peaceful, democratic, prosperous and stable West Africa.

 Declaring the session open, the Chair of the Mediation and Security Council at the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to ECOWAS, H.E. Ambassador Musa Nuhu emphasised that “peace and security remain at the heart of our regional agenda”. 

Key items for discussion during the meeting are seven Memoranda on political situation in the region; security situation in the region; ECOWAS Standby Force Logistics Concept and ECOWAS Logistics Depot Policies.
