As West Africa navigates an increasingly complex governance landscape, the ECOWAS Commission has convened Member States in Abuja to reaffirm a shared priority: anticipating risks before they escalate.
Opening a high-level regional workshop on governance, human rights, and early warning coordination, ECOWAS signaled a clear institutional direction to elevate early warning from a monitoring mechanism into a core pillar of preventive governance and regional stability.
Through harmonised indicators, real-time data tools, and enhanced coordination frameworks, the Commission is equipping national institutions with the means to act swiftly, strategically, and collaboratively.
A statement by ECOWAS Directorate of Communication on Tuesday said that this initiative reflects ECOWAS’s enduring commitment to strengthening institutional resilience, fostering democratic principles, and delivering responsive governance that safeguards the rights and well-being of the region’s citizens.
