The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network (WADEMOS) has commented the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on its decision to invite the governments of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to participate in the official launch of ECOWAS’ 50th-anniversary celebrations in Accra.

In a press release on Tuesday , WADEMOS said this action marks a significant step toward fostering diplomacy and easing tensions within the region.

WADEMOS expressed its full support for ECOWAS’ initiative to open the doors of collaboration and friendship to the three Sahelian countries, even as it stresse the importance of strengthening the longstanding socio-cultural ties and shared history that bind the peoples of West Africa subregion.

“By extending this invitation, ECOWAS is taking a bold and diplomatic step to bridge divides and create an environment of cooperation, especially at a time when regional security and trade are of critical importance.

”We call on Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to reciprocate this gesture, embracing the opportunity for reconciliation and unity in the face of common challenges," the statement said.

WADEMOS highlighted that restoring trust and confidence between these countries and ECOWAS remains essential for the ongoing promotion of free movement, trade, and collective action against threats like terrorism that loom large over the subregion.

WADEMOS urged the three countries to engage in constructive dialogue with ECOWAS to rebuild confidence and strengthen collaborative efforts.

The momentous invitation represents an opportunity to forge a new chapter of peaceful engagement, which WADEMOS said is pivotal for both regional stability and progress.
