ECOWAS Vice President Seeks Regular Meeting With EU For Effective Projects' Delivery

The Vice President of the Economic Community Of West Africa States,  ECOWAS, H.E. Mrs. Damtien. L. Tchintchibidja has stressed the need for regular coordination meeting between the Commission and EU, the involvement of ECOWAS in decision making and monitoring activities for EU funded projects implemented by the Commission to ensure more effective and efficient delivery.

She stated this when the newly appointed Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot paid a courtesy visit to her at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. 

A statement by ECOWAS Directorate of Communication on Friday said that the purpose of the visit was to officially introduce himself to the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission.

Ambassador Gautier Mignot was accompanied by the Deputy Ambassador of the EU to Nigeria and ECOWAS,  Mr. Zissimos Vergos, and Acting Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Ruben Alba Aguilera. 

In her remarks, Tchintchhibidja expressed ECOWAS’ gratitude for the ongoing cooperation between the EU andir ECOWAS, especially the new cooperation package under the Neighbourhood Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) covering priority areas including trade, migration, energy, agriculture, peace, security and governance, digital economy and capacity building. 

The ECOWAS Vice President and the EU delegation also discussed the forthcoming ECOWAS 50TH Anniversary celebration and the launch of new projects under ECOWAS and EU co-operation.
