The Third Meeting of the Management Committee of the ECOWAS Regional Food Security Reserve l kicked off on Tuesday in Abuja, Nigeria.
The main objective of the two-day meeting holding on 18-19 March 2025, is to present to the Committee Members a detailed report on the operations carried out since the last meeting in March 2023, and to submit for their approval the operations planned for 2025.
Daily Independent gathered that members are also expected to discuss and validate the resource mobilisation plan to support Member States in their responses to food, nutrition and pastoral crises.
Declaring the Meeting open on behalf of Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, said the meeting embodied the collective commitment of ECOWAS Member States to guarantee sustainable food and nutrition for the region.
Speaking on behalf of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs Massandjé Toure-Litse, the Executive Director , Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF), Mr. Mohamed Zongo, said the meeting would enable the members of the Management Committee to take stock of the operations carried out by the Regional Reserve since March 2023 on the basis of the Executive Board's guidelines, particularly with regard to purchases, interventions, stock replenishment, technical rotations and the identification of new storage areas.
