ECOWAS, Brazil Move To Strengthen Bilateral Ties On Peace, Security

Brazil and the Economic Community Of West Africa States ECOWAS have explored how to strengthen bilateral relations on peace and security. 

Towards this, the Ambassador of Brazil to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Carlos Garcete, accompanied by his Counselor, Mr. Alexandre Mabhares, paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, H.E. Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah in Abuja. 

A statement on Friday said that the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral engagements between ECOWAS and Brazil.

Discussions covered a range of strategic issues, including regional security, peacekeeping efforts, the promotion of democracy and good governance in West Africa and socio-economic development.

Both parties underscored the importance of deepening collaboration to address shared challenges and advance regional stability. As a follow-up, the two sides agreed to continue discussions with the Brazilian Government on practical steps to enhance bilateral cooperation in these key areas. 

The statement said that the visit reflects the commitment of both ECOWAS and Brazil to fostering stronger partnerships for peace, security and development in the West African region.
